"The limits of my language are the limits of my world"  - Ludwig Wittgenstein
In 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ivan Miguel and I embarked on an enormous journey to create a short film.

The goal of our collaboration was not just to create an animated short, but to tell a deeper story that was of importance to both of us. This was the beginning of what would become "The Untranslatable Forest" - a project that took us over three years to complete, and wasn't without its numerous creative challenges and struggles. Ultimately we finished with a piece that we are both incredibly proud of.

The film explores the beauty of language and nature, taking you on a journey through a surreal airport where untranslatable words (words unique to different languages) reveal themselves.

I created the 3D visuals, and Ivan handled art direction, storyboarding, styleframes, 2D animation, editing, and compositing. Sound design was done by Ronroco Audio, with music by the Kronos Quartet performing the piece "Le Bois" composed by Bryce Dessner.

The film is currently being submitted to and shown at various festivals around the world, first premiering at SF DocFest in June 2024. The film will be released publicly in 2025 after it has completed the festival circuit.
